Oskaloosa School Board Honors Retiring Teachers

Oskaloosa, Iowa – Oskaloosa Community School Board celebrated as they opened Tuesday’s regular session. Retiring teachers and staff were honored with a reception prior to the start of the meeting. Once in session, Superintendent Russ Reiter and board president Susan Boxler presented plaques to the retirees. Twelve members of the support staff and nine teachers were honored with plaques.

Food service director Julie Miller presented a proposal to raise school lunch prices. A recent Federal guideline showed the school district was under the limit and the district was told to raise the price by five cents at the elementary and 15 cents at the middle school and high school. New prices would be $2.05 per day at the elementary and $2.15 at the middle and high schools. The increases would be $9 per year per student at the elementary and $27 per year per student at the middle and high school. The board approved the measure.
Approved salary and benefits for other staff at 3.25 percent and administrators at 3 percent.
In other business:
Curriculum director Dr. Mary Cooksley gave an update of the District Learning Team project. The presentation was a summary of the work performed and progress made during the school year.
Approved the 2012-13 budget amendment.
Authorized sale of three school busses that will be taken out of service with the purchase of two new busses.
Awarded an audit contract to Van Maanen, Siestra (SEE-STRA) and Meyer of Pella.
Approved second and first readings of two board policies.
Renewed membership in the Iowa School Finance Services, and organization that assists school boards with information regarding school finances. Financial impact is $1 per student per year. $2,375 per year.
Approved membership in the Energy Association of Iowa Schools. The group provides services related to finding companies and products that will make the district more
