Oskaloosa Officially Welcomes The Barnstormers To Town

Barnstormers fans lined up Sunday night to get autographs from the team

Oskaloosa, Iowa – With the William Penn Band and Drum Corp playing and game food from Hy-Vee, the stage was set for the first official meet and greet Oskaloosa residents would have with the Barnstormers.

“I’m loving it” Mayor Dave Krutzfeldt said on having the Barnstormers in Oskaloosa. “The nice thing about that is it puts Oskaloosa on the map one more time for something else that we’re doing right.”

The mayor explained that other good points of the team coming to Oskaloosa was the ability for the team to not only enjoy our practice facilities but that they get to know the city as well and some of the people in it. “It sounds like a win win to me”, Krutzfeldt stated about sharing Oskaloosa with the team.

Scott Soares and his family made the journey to Oskaloosa from the Kansas City area to enjoy the kick-off. Soares is a fan of arena football and especially the Iowa Barnstormers and the Kansas City Command.

“When Kansas City lost their team I started coming to games up here, fell in love with the team, the fans, everything. It’s a great atmosphere”, Soares said of why he drove to Sunday night’s event.

Having a passion and love for the game is different to everyone. Soares is like many others, “Partially its events like this. Getting to know the players, mingling with other fans. This is our second family up here in Des Moines.”

Practice had started that morning and, as the players walked off the field, we asked the Barnstormers Head Coach Mike Hohensee about that mornings practice, “I thought it went extremely well. For having so many new guys I didn’t think we made too many mistakes. There was a couple of fumbled snaps that we’re going to have to work on, but I thought the veterans came back, they looked sharp, and I thought a few of the new guys did a good job.”

The next opportunity to catch the team will be at 5:00 pm Tuesday at the Peppertree.
