Oskaloosa, Iowa – Rain was in the area, but golfers made their way to Oskaloosa Golf Club for the 3rd annual best ball golf outing. The booster club holds the outing to help raise funds to directly support the Oskaloosa Middle and Senior High School activities.

MCG was once again the title sponsor of the event, allowing 100% of the golf entry fee to be allocated to the Oskaloosa Indian Booster Club. The cost per team was $240.00 or $60.00 individually.

Scott Van Velhuizen, President of the Oskaloosa Indian Booster Club, said that the golf outing is one of the largest fundraiser events they have all year long, and it gets people out and actively involved in the event.

After golf had completed, there was a silent auction as well as a live auction with what appeared to be a good time by those in attendance.

Membership in the booster club includes nearly 50 businesses and 150 individuals, and Van Velhuizen says they are looking to add to those numbers since reforming approximately four years ago after a period of inactivity.

The group will be selling coupon books on August 13th to also help raise funds for the various school activities. The school will send the club the requests for assistance, with helping fund an activity, and then the group will decide what they can do to help with the funds available to them. Recently, the group has helped to purchase weight lifting, strength and conditioning equipment, as well as uniforms. Beyond athletics, they might be able to help various clubs, like the Robotics Club, with funds to travel and helping with events like the After Prom party.

A volleyball night on August 16th will then be followed by the traditional ‘Old Shoe Game’ on August 17th at the new Community Stadium at the Lacey Complex. This is part of the membership drive being put together by the Booster Club.
