Oskaloosa High School Performs Drug Search Drill
Oskaloosa, Iowa – It may have only been a drill, but the impact may be lasting.
Oskaloosa High School went into lock-down on Monday morning as the school and local drug enforcement officers performed a drill that has a drug-sniffing dog enter the school.
Oskaloosa High School Assistant Principal Tim Scott said that if something had been found, “We would have zip-tied that locker” and then the student would have been questioned about the contents of the locker.
Scott said that he and officers walked through the school and “it didn’t hit on anything. Which is good.” Says Scott. “We’re probably going to invite them back because they are getting a new dog.”
“It helps them out,” says Scott of the training opportunity for law enforcement. “Helps us out as a deterrent for the kids.”
The hope, says Scott, is that the drill will serve as a deterrent, letting students know that the school ground is no place for drugs or drug related activity.
