Oskaloosa Girls Shine at Grinnell Track Meet

GRINNELL, April 23, 2024 – The Oskaloosa girls track and field team delivered at the Grinnell meet on Tuesday night.

Ryleigh Wilken was the star of the night, as she improved her personal best in the high jump, clearing 5-5 and securing fourth place on the all-time top 10 list.

In the throws, Rees Campbell demonstrated her prowess by clinching first place in the discus with a throw of 106-11.5. Her throw not only won the event but also set a season benchmark.

The Distance Medley Relay team—comprising Sarah Phillips, Wilken, Evelyn Adam, and Tierney Carter—raced to victory with a season-best time of 4:27.83, adding to the team’s gold medal tally. Carter, a versatile middle-distance runner, continued to impress by securing second place in both the 800 and 1500 meter runs, with her 800 time earning her a fifth-place ranking on the Top 10 list and her 1500 performance setting a new personal record by six seconds.

Emmalee Wells-Stout also had a notable evening, taking second in the 400 meter hurdles and playing a key role in the 4×400 relay team’s strong finish.

Despite the absence of Hannah Quang, who is currently recovering from a hamstring injury, the team managed to set 10 personal records and achieve three season-best relay times, indicating strong progress and depth in their roster.

The team placed fifth overall with 59 points, reflecting a determined effort against strong teams from Pella, Williamsburg, Newton, and host Grinnell.

Looking ahead, the Oskaloosa team is set to compete at the Tulip Time Relays hosted by Pella Christian this Thursday. Wilken is also scheduled to compete in the high jump at Drake Stadium, promising another thrilling performance.
