Oskaloosa Girls Bowling Opens Season 2–0 at Statesmen Lanes
The Oskaloosa girls bowling team started its season on a high note Saturday, going 2–0 in a triangular at Statesmen Lanes with wins over Knoxville and Sigourney.
It was a close meet from start to finish. After the singles games, Oskaloosa trailed Knoxville by 12 pins but held a 24-pin lead over Sigourney. That meant the girls needed a strong performance in the Baker games to climb past Knoxville and protect their edge over Sigourney.
Oskaloosa answered that challenge. Frame by frame, the Indians chipped away at Knoxville’s lead and moved in front. By the time they reached the final Baker game, Oskaloosa held a slim 5-pin advantage over Knoxville.
In the 10th frame of that last Baker game, Faith Carmer came through in a key moment, converting a split to lock up the win over Knoxville and finish off the 2–0 day for the Indians.
Several bowlers posted strong scores for Oskaloosa in the singles portion.
• Paige Vandermeiden rolled the high game for the team with a 154.
• Faith Carmer was close behind with a 153 and finished with the high two-game series at 275.
• Aubrey Bowen added a solid 130 game.
• Bailey VanZomeren contributed with a 122 game.
The coaching staff was pleased with how the girls responded when they were behind after singles and how they performed together in the Baker games. The first meet showed many positives and gave the team a good base to build on as the season moves forward.
