Oskaloosa Fire Battles House Fire Friday Evening
Oskaloosa, Iowa – The Oskaloosa Fire Department responded to the 600 block of 3rd Avenue East at approximately 8:10 pm on Friday evening. It was reported that there was a large amount of smoke coming from a home in the area.
Oskaloosa Fire Department Captain Dan Hoy told Oskaloosa News, “About ten after 8 o’clock approximately tonight, we got called to a structure fire. Lots of smoke, no flames here at the corner of 3rd and 5th. When we first got here, there was heavy smoke out of the roofline. We did find some fire in the void spaces in the back.”
“Called in all the firefighters from Oskaloosa. We’ve got about 15 that are on scene right now,” explained Hoy. “We’ve been working it about two hours, and we’re just chasing the last of the smoke and doing some overhaul right now.”
Hoy said that no one was at home. “The home was vacant. It was undergoing remodeling, so thankfully there wasn’t much in the way of contents to be destroyed, and even better nobody was in there.”
At the scene, Hoy said there wasn’t any indication of what had started the fire. “We’ll sure look for that and get back to you that.”
