The Oskaloosa FFA Chapter went to Louisville, Kentucky from October 29th to November 2nd for National FFA Convention. Hailey Adams, Kelsi Tomlin, Bobbi Fogle, Jordan Bemis, Alex Grubbs, and Madison McQueen were the six members that attended along with their chapter advisor, Mike Striegel. Tri-County, North Mahaska and Oskaloosa stayed together for the majority of the trip seeing as their chapters are closely connected.

During convention there is 8 sessions and during each there is different awards, speeches, and keynote speakers. Our keynote speakers this year were Rick Pitino, Joe Torrillo and Josh Sundquist.

The chapter toured Schimpff’s Confectionary in Jeffersonville, Kentucky which is a candy shop famous for their cinnamon red hots. They also toured Huber Orchard which is a winery that has been in operation since 1843 and has been family owned and farmed ever since. The last tour they went on was the Tucker farm. The Tucker’s produce tobacco and row crops. They taught the chapter all about how tobacco is grown and produced. From these tours the chapter learned about the challenges and advantages of farming.

Overall, National FFA Convention was a success for the Oskaloosa FFA. They grew their friendships and grew as individuals.
