Oskaloosa City Band concert on June 12, 2014
The Oskaloosa City Band will perform Thursday at 8 p.m. on the city square. Director Bruce Peiffer has chosen a wide variety of music sure to please concertgoers.
Tuba player, Bailie Benson, will be featured in a Welsh Folk Song, entitled “The Ash Grove”. Other recognizable tunes include Michael Buble’s “Haven’t Met You Yet”, “Dancing Queen, and Duke Ellington’s “Caravan”. This week’s march selections are by Karl King.
Throughout the summer, the band is celebrating its sequicentennial. Since 1864, what is now known as the Oskaloosa Municipal Band, has been performing weekly summer concerts. There will be a weekly prize drawing, with gift certificates from a wide variety of local businesses.
Each week, the band plays a special song for birthday and anniversary celebrations. If you would like to recognize someone, hand a note to a band member before the concert.
Refreshments will be provided by TruBank (popcorn), Hawkeye Real Estate (beverages), and Oskaloosa Sno Biz (sno biz frozen treats).
We’re all hoping for a beautiful evening, however, tune into KBOE radio or Facebook (Oskaloosa City Band Fan Page or Oskaloosa News) for details if there are any weather related announcements.
