Oskaloosa Boys Crown Two Champions at Little Hawkeye Conference Tournament
The Oskaloosa boys wrestling team competed Saturday at the Little Hawkeye Conference Tournament and came away with two conference champions and several top finishes. The Indians were led by Colton Shaffer and Parker Jordan, who both won titles in their weight classes.
Shaffer captured the championship at 157 pounds. After receiving a bye in the opening round, he earned a technical fall over Andrew Newberg of Norwalk in the semifinals. Shaffer then won a 4-1 decision over Cole Hemmingsen of Dallas Center-Grimes in the finals to secure the conference title.
Jordan won the 215-pound championship. He advanced through the bracket with two byes and finished the tournament with a 9-5 decision over Zach O’Meara of Indianola in the title match.
Oskaloosa had three wrestlers finish in third place. Braydin O’Brien placed third at 113 pounds with a 7-4 decision over Quinten Gonzalez of Norwalk. Matthew Phillips took third at 165 pounds after recording two pins in the consolation rounds, including a fall over Ty Van Vliet of Pella in the third-place match. Trey Parks added a third-place finish at 175 pounds with a 4-1 decision over Davion Lampkin of Pella.
Several other Indians placed in the top six. Emmett Dye finished fifth at 106 pounds. Sam Nelson placed fourth at 120. Hunter Smith finished sixth at 126. Jamison Ruby placed fifth at 132. Jett Stock finished fourth at 138. Misael Gonzales placed fifth at 144. Trevin Griffin finished fifth at 150. Brock Beerbower placed fourth at 190. Kyron Smith finished fourth at 285 pounds.
The Indians will wrestle again Tuesday in Knoxville in a quad meet against Knoxville, Central Decatur, and Van Meter as the team continues its season.
