Oskaloosa 7th Grade Football Dominates Newton, Wins 26-8

The Oskaloosa 7th grade football team secured a commanding 26-8 victory in their first away game of the season on Tuesday night, defeating the Newton Cardinals. With this win, the Indians improved their record to 2-1-1.

The Osky defense played a standout game, shutting out Newton in the first half and allowing only one touchdown late in the fourth quarter. Kipton Caves recorded his second interception of the season, and John Rohr made key tackles in the backfield, putting constant pressure on the Cardinals’ offense. Rohr also executed a heads-up play on special teams, delivering a squib kick that was recovered by Andrew Pilcher.

The Indians’ offense struck early, with Christian Davis scoring on the first possession of the game. While the offense moved the ball well in the first half, they struggled to finish drives, going into halftime with a 6-0 lead.

In the second half, the offense took control, with Davis finding the end zone for a couple more touchdowns. Beau Pierson contributed a successful two-point conversion, and hard runs from Kinnick Walraven and Davis helped the Indians dominate the game’s tempo.

In the B game, there were more highlights, including powerful runs by Rhett Wilken and Jaxon Boertje. Quarterback Nolan Nance connected with Jaden Gibson and Carter Fisk for impressive receptions, showcasing the depth of the Osky squad.

The Indians are set to return to action on Tuesday, October 15th, when they travel to Knoxville.

Coach Alex DeJong also introduced a new tradition—the “Coaches Gatorade Practice Player of the Week” award, given to a player who demonstrates exceptional effort, skill, and commitment during practice. The recent recipients of the award have been Kipton Caves and Jaxon Boertje, both recognized for their hard work, dedication, and positive impact on the team.
