OHS Boys Tennis Didn’t Get The Results They Hoped For

by Tony Witt

The Oskaloosa Boys varsity team was in action yesterday on a perfect day to play tennis, unfortunately we did got the results that we were hoping for. The team came out a little flat and not ready to play in all of their first round matches. It didn’t help that we drew into 2 out of the 4 matches against the eventual champions of in the flights. The Stek brothers lost the first match to the #4 seeded team from Norwalk in a matchup that they could’ve won but came out flat footed and didn’t play there best match, they did start to play better and won their second match and the n lost in a 3rd set tiebreaker to finish in 6th place in their flight 2 doubles. Myles Strait drew the #1 seed and eventual flight #1 singles champion from Pella. Myles finished in 7th place in flight #1 singles. Jacob Jones and Cam Cassens didn’t fair much better with the draw either as they had to played #1 seeded Pella and eventual champion in the first round as well. They also ended up getting 7th place as well in flight #1 doubles. Oskaloosa finished in last place but was close to the 7th place finish. I am very proud of how this group of kids have continued to improve with every match with only two of the players in varsity top six returning from last year and the other four are all first year players.
