OHS Addresses Concerns About Student Lunch
An Oskaloosa School District Letter To Parents concerning a recent social media post.
As you may know, construction has been underway in various areas of Oskaloosa High School, including the cafeteria and kitchen. While our kitchen is fully equipped, some electrical work is still in progress.
We know our meal options have been limited. However, our kitchen staff has been working diligently to add more hot meal options for students.
Today, photos were posted to Facebook that implied there was a lack of food provided for students.I want to assure families that our students’ nutrition and health is a top priority at all our buildings, and we have never run out of food to offer students. These photos were taken out of context and did not accurately reflect the amount of available food.
Like many other organizations and businesses, the Oskaloosa Community School District has been impacted by supply chain issues, resulting in us adjusting our menu offerings to better reflect our supply. However, the building construction is the main factor affecting our meal options at the moment. To address this issue, our cafeteria staff does its best to maintain accurate records of supply so they may plan accordingly.
In the last couple days, the cafeteria has unexpectedly needed to serve meals for about 50 more students than usual. To prepare for higher demand, our Director of Dining Services Morgan Johnson has made plans to increase all meal options moving forward to ensure our supply can continue to meet the demand.
If you have any further questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me or Ms. Johnson, atjohnsonma@oskycsd.org. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we work through this temporary challenge at our high school.
Sincerely,
Mike Fisher
Superintendent
