Norma Mattix, 75, of Pella and formerly of Oskaloosa, IA and Baldwin Park, CA passed away, Thursday evening, February 13, 2014, at Jefferson Place in Pella, IA.
Norma Jean Mattix, daughter of Harley and Dorothy (Fleener) Fenton, was born October 7, 1938, in Oskaloosa, Iowa.
Norma was a 1957 graduate of Oskaloosa High School. In 1958 she traveled to California, where her high school sweetheart, Larry Dean Mattix, was stationed with the Navy. They married, June 28, 1958, in Las Vegas, NV. They settled in Baldwin Park, CA where they lived until 1995, at which time they returned to Oskaloosa.
Norma was a wonderful cook and her Iowa family especially enjoyed her Mexican meals. Visiting casinos with family and friends was a favorite activity for her. She was an avid sports fan, her favorite team was the LA Lakers. She collected teddy bears and she will always be remembered as a loving mother and grandma.
Her family includes her children: Michele Mattix of Baldwin Park, CA and Kevin Mattix of Oskaloosa; five grandchildren: Jessica, Kevin and Dennis Mattix and Natalie and Bryan Silva; two great-grandsons; sisters: Mary Ann Ferguson of Grinnell and Sandy (Chris) De Haan of Oskaloosa; brothers: Harley (Donna) Fenton, Rick Fenton and Mike (Karen) Fenton, all of Oskaloosa; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Norma was preceded in death by her husband Larry, who died October 11, 1997 and by a sister, Beverly Masterson.
As was her wish, Norma’s body has been cremated and burial of her ashes will be in Coal Creek Cemetery.
No visitation or memorial service are planned at this time.
