No Shave November Helps Area Kids

Oskaloosa, Iowa – The month of November has to hurt the bottom line of the shaving industry, but the good it does for local charities certainly more than makes up for it.

In Mahaska County, several different groups participated in the ‘No Shave November’ fundraiser, with the City of Oskaloosa and the Mahaska County Sheriff’s Office being some notable participants.

The City of Oskaloosa helped to raise $2000.00 for the new program, Big Brothers & Big Sisters of Mahaska County, with donations coming from a long list of donors.

Eighth Note Hair Parlor, Slumberland Furniture, Interiors by Val, Mahaska Drug, The Eagles Nest, Hunters, Brown’s Shoe Fit Company, Crouse’s House of Flowers, Hawkeye Real Estate – Sherrie Moore, Lisa Tucker and Lori Oaks, Hy-Vee, True Value Hardware, Julie’s Homestyle Cafe, Brickhouse Cafe, Fareway, Spring Creek Arms, Farm Bureau Financial Services, Fred’s Muffler, Wyndell Campbell State Farm, and Mahaska Hearing Aid Center.

The Mahaska County Sheriff’s Office a 25 dollar donation was made by each participant, with the money going towards ‘The Gift Tree,’ a program designed to provide Christmas gifts to needy Mahaska County children.

In addition to the many individuals that donated to this fundraiser, the Sheriff’s Office would also like to thank the following businesses for their generous support of this program.

MidWest One Insurance Services, Oskaloosa Vision Center, Tropical Rayz, DeRonde Farms, Kelli Steil State Farm Insurance, Affordable Door Company, Oskaloosa News, The Peppertree, Oskaloosa Motel, Kraig Ford and McCloud LLC.

“Because of all of the generous support of this program, the Sheriff’s Office was able to raise nearly $1,000 for this charity.”
