NO. 1 WARRIORS TAKE DOWN NO. 3 TRITONS ON THE ROAD

Fort Dodge, IA – The top-ranked Indian Hills Women’s Wrestling squad made a statement with a 29-19 victory over No. 3 nationally ranked Iowa Central Community College. The Warriors remain unbeaten in Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) dual action with a 4-0 mark.

The Warriors improve to 4-0 all-time vs. the Tritons with all four victories by double digits. Indian Hills secured the first four matches of the night and capped the dual with seven of the 11 bouts won.

Freshman Brooklyn Noel (Moore, OK/Moore) put the Warriors ahead in the opening match of the night with a 4-1 decision before sophomore national champion Ariah Mervilus (Virginia Beach, VA/Landstown) rolled to a 10-0 tech fall at 110.

Abigail Querida Verdejo Rivero (Stillwater, OK/Stillwater), ranked No. 6 in the nation, kept things rolling with a 15-4 tech fall at 117lbs to push the score to 11-2 in favor of the Warriors. Freshman Gabriela Avila Diaz (San Juan, Puerto Rico/Academia Bautista De Puerto Nuevo) made it four consecutive victories to open the night with the first fall of the night, securing the pin in 3:58 of mat time.

Freshman Jasmine Wolfe (Sedalia, MO/Smith-Cotton) earned a 10-0 tech fall at 138lbs before the Tritons clawed back with a pair of victories at 145lbs and 160lbs. Sophomore All-American Paola Rodriguez (Vega Baja, Puerto Rico/Rosalina C. Martinez), ranked No. 1 in the nation at 180lbs, rolled to a 10-0 tech fall. Following a loss at 207lbs, freshman Azreal Smith (Tulsa, OK/Union) ranked No. 4 in the nation at 235lbs, cruised to a 10-0 tech fall to close out the night for the Warriors.

Through five duals this season, the Warriors have now outscored their opponents 188-78.

Indian Hills is back in action January 28 at the Multi-Purpose Building on the Indian Hills Centerville campus for a clash with league foe Iowa Western Community College as part of a doubleheader with the men’s squad. Action gets underway at 6:00 PM.
