NO. 1 WARRIORS FLEX AT WASHBURN OPEN

February 03, 2025

Topeka, KS – Fresh off being named the No. 1 ranked team in the nation, the Indian Hills Men’s Track & Field squad competed at the Washburn Open over the weekend, seeing a number of top performances.

Freshman Raynier Galvez (Paterson, NJ/Passaic County) cemented himself as one of the top middle-distance performers in the nation with another record-breaking performance. Galvez, who earned national honors earlier in the season, posted a time of 1:08.48 in the men’s 600-yard run to place first overall among 31 competitors to set a new meet record. Galvez shattered his own school record and currently owns the top two times in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) this year.

Galvez’s new personal-best time ranks second all-time in NJCAA history and is one of just two individuals all-time to have two sub-1:10.00 marks in the same season in the 600y run.

Sophomore Cayde de Waal (Brakpan, South Africa/Hoërskool Oosterlig) re-wrote the record books with a dominant performance in the men’s 3,000-meter run. de Waal posted a time of 8:22.80, more than 14 seconds ahead of his previous personal best to surpass the Indian Hills record by more than four seconds.

de Waal has now qualified for the upcoming NJCAA Indoor Track & Field National Championship in four separate events – the 800m, 1,000m, 3,000m, and mile, the only athlete in the nation to qualify for each of the four events.

Freshmen Domictress Robinson (Jacksonville, FL/Jean Ribault) and Supreme Muhammad (Rockford, IL/Winnebago) starred in the men’s 200-meter dash with a pair of top-five Indian Hills all-time performances to finish first and third in the event, respectively. Robinson posted the second-fastest time in the nation at 21.02 while Muhammad followed with a time of 21.19, fourth-fastest in the NJCAA this year. The marks rank fourth and fifth all-time at Indian Hills, respectively.

Freshman Justin Gray (Memphis, TN/Southwind) added a personal best time of 21.60 in the 200m as well to place 11th overall for the Warriors.

The men’s 4x400m relay squad set the track ablaze with a new meet record, finishing atop the leaderboard with a record time of 3:11.69. The quartet of Gray, Muhammad, Galvez, and Nichalas Power (Riverton City, Jamaica) posted the fourth-fastest time in the nation this year while competing against 30 programs in the event, including 10 NJCAA programs.

Freshman Dantevius Boykin (Coffeyville, KS/Field Kindley) put together a breakthrough performance in a pair of events. Boykin posted a second-place finish in the men’s long jump with a mark of 7.35m, the second-best mark in school history. Boykin added a seventh-place showing in the men’s triple jump with a mark of 14.32m, good enough for fifth all-time in school history.

Sophomore Triston Miller (Columbus Junction, IA/Columbus Junction) added a fifth-place in the men’s high jump invitational on Saturday while freshman Kahuan Harris (Hopkins, MN/Hopkins) placed fifth in the high jump open on Friday with a personal-best mark of 1.92m.

Freshman Logan Rosas (Oakville, IA/Mediapolis) and sophomore Felix Petit Belleville (Paris, France/Uruguay-France) each hit national qualifying marks in the men’s 800m run with personal best times of 1:54.78 and 1:55.84, respectively. The Warriors now have six individuals who have qualified for the upcoming national championship.

Freshman Tatum Westercamp (Oskaloosa, IA/Oskaloosa) tied a personal-best performance in the men’s 60mH with a mark of 8.28 while fellow freshman Paul Glon (Aveze, France/Lycée polyvalent Le Mans sud) recorded a personal-best performance in the 600y run with a time of 1:13.00.

Indian Hills returns to action February 8 with the Iowa State Classic in Ames, IA.
