Oskaloosa, Iowa – The Oskaloosa Board of Adjustments met on Tuesday afternoon to consider a conditional use permit to construct a high tunnel hoop building that would be used as a greenhouse. The greenhouse is to be located at 613 South B Street.

Blaine Voss, with New Hope Community Center, which is located at the former Jefferson Elementary building, informed the board that the greenhouse would be used in its programs that help educate and instruct families on being self sustaining.

Voss explained that the building would be used for non-commercial community garden extended season demonstration. “It’s about the same amount of space we’re currently under with the community garden.”

Voss said that New Hope Community Center is focused on after-school programming, “honoring the mission of strengthening families”. Voss said that the community garden, thrift store, and pregnancy center are all part of their services.

The board approved the conditional use permit for New Hope Community Center to construct the greenhouse with a 4-0 vote from the board.
