NASCAR Nationwide Series Champion to Appear at the Science Center of Iowa

Meet 2011 NASCAR Nationwide Series Champion and Two-Time, Defending Race Winner, Ricky Stenhouse Jr.

NEWTON, IA – May 8, 2012 – Ricky Stenhouse Jr., the 2011 NASCAR Nationwide Series Champion and two-time, defending winner in the Nationwide Series at Iowa Speedway, will be at the Science Center of Iowa & Blank IMAX Dome Theater (SCI) visiting with fans and holding a special question and answer session for those in attendance the evening of Wednesday, May 9, from 6:00 – 7:15 p.m..

Stenhouse Jr., who drives the number six Roush Fenway Racing Nationwide Series car, will be at SCI to promote the upcoming Pioneer Hi-Bred 250 NASCAR Nationwide Series race on Sunday, May 20.

“Having a driver like Ricky, who won the Series Championship and both Nationwide races at Iowa Speedway last year, in town just days before our 2012 opening weekend is a great way to get people excited about coming out to the Speedway on May 19 and 20,” said Doug Fritz, CEO of Iowa Speedway. “Ricky is fan favorite here in Iowa, and we know that he, along with all the drivers, in both series, will put on a great show for the fans.”

The 2012 race season at Iowa Speedway gets underway on Saturday, May 19, with the Graham Tire 150 NASCAR K&N Pro Series at 7:00 p.m. Brett Moffitt, from Grimes, IA, won the K&N Series’ last race at Richmond and is the defending race winner at Iowa Speedway. Some of the stars joining Moffitt are Travis Pastrana, the motocross and rally car star, and Chase Elliott, whose dad is Bill Elliott.

The SCI event goes from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. and the price of admission will also get fans into the IMAX film NASCAR: The IMAX Experience. Tickets are $9 for adults, $7 for children (2-12) and $8 for seniors (65+). SCI members receive discount admission: $7 for adults, $5 for children and $6 for seniors. The Pioneer Hi-Bred 250 NASCAR Nationwide Series race, scheduled for Sunday, May 20, at 1:00 p.m., will have some of the biggest names in racing battling side-by-side for the Speedway’s first gas pump trophy of the year. Other drivers who will join Stenhouse include 2003 NASCAR Sprint Cup Champion Kurt Busch, Elliott Sadler, Danica Patrick, Sam Hornish Jr. and rookie Austin Dillon, who brings the black number three Chevy to Iowa Speedway for the first time ever.
