Murray Fynaardt, 77, of Oskaloosa passed away Monday, October 27, 2014, at his home in rural Oskaloosa. Murray James Fynaardt, son of Ben and Marie (DeHaan) Fynaardt, was born February 15, 1937, at the rural home of his parents near Leighton, Iowa.
Murray attended Black Oak and Scott Center country grade schools and was a 1955 graduate of Pella Christian High School.
For several years following graduation, he worked for Bloom Builders building pole barns and in June, 1959 he joined the Iowa National Guard. Following his discharge, Murray began helping his father fulltime on the family farm four miles south and east of Oskaloosa. Murray farmed his entire life.
Murray was a lifelong member of the First Christian Reformed Church where he was baptized, April 4, 1937, and made his profession of faith, November 10, 1957.
His family includes his nephews: Dr. Darrell (& Michelle) Fynaardt of Muskego, WI and Arlin (& Kim) Fynaardt of Midlothian, VA; and five great nieces and nephews: Kayla, Spencer, Rylee, Leah and Daniel.
In addition to his parents, Murray was preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law: Rev. Bernie and Vera Joyce Fynaardt.
Funeral Services for Murray will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, November 1, at the First Christian Reformed Church in Oskaloosa with Rev. Dale Visser officiating.
A family prayer service will be held in the fellowship hall at 10:15 a.m. prior to the service.
Burial will be in Forest Cemetery.
Visitation will begin at noon on Friday at Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel; the family will be at the funeral chapel from 5-7 to greet visitors.
