MILDRED HULL LYTLE

Oskaloosa. Mildred Hull Lytle, 89, of Oskaloosa, passed away Wednesday, March 14, 2012, at Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa. She was born August 8, 1922 at Taintor, the daughter of Afton Miller and Lena Garner Hull. She graduated from the New Sharon High School with the class of 1938. On September 14, 1940, Mildred was united in marriage to John M. Lytle at Des Moines, and John died August 18, 1980. Mildred sang professionally at countless weddings, funeral, and public events for many years in and around Oskaloosa. After her husband, John’s death, Mildred worked as a teller at Mahaska State Bank in Oskaloosa for several years until retiring. She was a longtime member of the First Christian Church, Oskaloosa, and a member of Lydia Circle, and was choir director at the church for 33 years. She was also a member of Chapter X, P.E.O.; D.A.R.; and D.A.C.

Her family includes her son and daughter in law: Steven and Mary Beth Lytle of Urbandale; her close friend and companion, Bud Garner of Oskaloosa; three grandchildren: Michael (& Susan) Lytle of Silverthorne, Colorado, Andrew Lytle of Southhampton, England, and Allison Lytle of Urbandale; and two great granddaughters: Madison and Sophia Lytle of Silverthorne, Colorado.

Besides her husband, Mildred was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Michael who was killed while serving in the Army during the Vietnam War; two brothers: Junior G. Hull and Maurice A. Hull; and three sisters: Irma Nicholson, Harriet LaRue, and Helen Jansen.

Funeral services will be held at a later date. Burial will be in the Madison Township Cemetery, northwest of Oskaloosa. Memorials may be made to First Christian Church of the Mahaska Hospice Serenity House, Oskaloosa.

The family would like to express their appreciation to Mildred’s caregivers at Maple Ridge and Serenity House for their compassionate and loving assistance during Mildred’s final days, and years. She died at peace with herself, and with the knowledge of her faith.
