Mikuta Named Performer of the Week
GRINNELL, Iowa – Grinnell College sophomore Brodie Mikuta has been named the Midwest Conference Men’s Swimming and Diving Performer of the Week after winning three events in the Pioneers’ dual victory over Macalester College.
Individual wins for Mikuta came in the 100-yard breaststroke and 200-yard backstroke with times of 1:01.76 and 2:06.00, respectively. He also was on the winning 200-yard medley relay team that had a clocking of 1:39.46. Additionally, Mikuta was second in the 200-yard individual medley.
Notable Performances
Jack Lutter helped Ripon College finish third at Saturday’s Wisconsin Private College Championships. He finished third in the 100-yard backstroke (57.04) and fourth in the 200-yard backstroke (2:07.75). He also swam a leg on Ripon’s third-place 400-yard freestyle relay team (3:23.94) and a leg on the Red Hawks’ fourth-place 200-yard freestyle relay team (1:32.77).
Travis Johnson was victorious three times in Lake Forest’s 145-82 dual meet victory over visiting Illinois Institute of Technology on Saturday. His 50-meter freestyle split of 24.27 seconds while anchoring the winning 200-meter medley relay was more than a second faster than his counterpart from Illinois Tech. He then prevailed by nine-tenths of a second in the 50-meter freestyle (24.28). Finally, Johnson’s leadoff split of 24.57 seconds in the 200-meter freestyle relay gave the home team an early lead of nearly two seconds.
Martin Ambre smashed the Illinois College record in the 1,000-yard freestyle in a dual meet victory over Principia College on Saturday, taking nearly 20 seconds off of it by swimming a 10:48.27. Ambre also swam the lead-off leg of IC’s winning 200-yard medley relay and the third leg of the winning 200-yard freestyle Relay, and won the 500-yard freestyle for the Blueboys as well.
