MHP Patients Move to New Wing
The last baby born in the old Birthing Center at Mahaska Health Partnership was also the first patient admitted to the new patient care wing. MAHASKA COUNTY – Tuesday, Sept. 17 was moving day at Mahaska Health Partnership and the first patient admitted in the new patient care wing was Alicia Walker of Oskaloosa and her son, Gunner Mykael.
Gunner was born in the old Birthing Center on Sept. 16 at 5:54 am. He weighed 6 lbs. 7 oz. and was delivered by Dr. Shawn Richmond. While he was born too early to receive one of the Stork Report Gift Bundles donated by local businesses, he did receive gifts donated by MHP and Dr. Richmond for being the last baby born in the old facility.
Gunner’s birth in the old Birthing Center is a fitting send off into the new building. “It’s an important moment in our long history,” MHP Birthing Center Director Chyann Vroegh said. “We’ve been caring for moms and babies in that area since 1965. We were proud of the care we were able to provide in that space and we’re looking forward to giving that same high level of personalized service in our new, state-of-the-art facility.”
Birthing Center patients aren’t the only ones on the move this busy day at MHP. Inpatient Services is also transitioning to their new space. Beginning Sept. 17, people visiting someone admitted to the hospital will want to go to the north end of MHP’s campus and use entrance #4.
