Max A. Towns, 97, passed away on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, at Montezuma Specialty Care Center in Montezuma, Iowa. He was born August 23, 1926, in Oskaloosa, Iowa, the son of Homer and Eva (Bass) Towns.
After attending High School, Max worked on his family farm until he was drafted.
Following his military discharge, he farmed various places in Mahaska and Keokuk County. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and being outdoors. He was a member of the American Legion in Keswick and was a proud veteran of WW2.
He is survived by his children Jerry (Elsie) Towns, Cheryl Conaway, Larry (Joan) Towns, and Bob (Linda) Towns. His granddaughters who cared for him over the years, Valerie Towns, and Angela Mkandawire. His other grandchildren include Lance Towns, Heather (Donnie) Carl, Jamie Towns, Amy (Travis) Johannes, Kelly (Les) Taylor, Lana (John) Kinzebach, Jeff (Lora) Slechta, Michelle (Jeramy) Smalley, April Slechta, and Sean (Haley) Slechta and many great-grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Shirley, his parents, and one brother, Harold Towns, and grandsons Brent Towns and David Towns.
A graveside service and burial will take place Friday, January 26, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa with Pastor Molly Goodrich officiating. Visitation will be held on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the Bates Funeral Chapel. A procession will form at 11:00 a.m. at Bates Funeral Chapel to go out to the cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Keswick American Legion. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
