Mary Ellen Herman, 85, of Hedrick died under the excellent and compassionate care of the staff at Vista Woods Care Center in Ottumwa. Mary was born Saturday, March 15, 1930, in Hedrick, the daughter of Harold and Ruth Scarborough Norris.
Mary graduated from Farson High School with the Class of 1947. She then went to work in the office at Morrell’s in Ottumwa and as a bank teller at Hedrick Savings Bank.
On August 27, 1949, Mary was united to Rex Herman in Chariton, Iowa. Rex died October 11, 2007.
Mary was a member of the Hedrick- Martinsburg United Methodist Church.
Her family includes her two daughters: Janet (& Bill) Van Buskirk of Hedrick and Linda (& Lyle) Bowlin of Lakeland, Florida; and two grandchildren: Janell (& Dustin) Griffiths of Hedrick and Amy Bowlin of Jacksonville, Florida.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and two brothers, Keith and Kenneth Norris.
Graveside services and burial will be held Saturday, October 17, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. in the Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Ottumwa with Reverend Bill Hornback officiating.
Visitation will be held Saturday morning from 9 A.M. until 10:30 A.M at the Fremont Funeral Chapel in Fremont.
A procession will form at 10:30 A.M. at the funeral chapel for those wishing to go to the cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Wapello and Davis Counties or Heartland Humane Society.
