Oskaloosa, Iowa – The Mahaska Young Professionals group have adopted a mile on the Lacey Recreation Trail and volunteered to trim around a bench and keep this mile clean. “We are excited to be involved with MCRF. One of our group goals is to provide young professionals in the area a way to become more connected to the community through volunteering and service events.” stated Darren Blaha organizer of the cleaning project. “Many of our group use the trial regularly and trail adoption provides a good opportunity for us to preserve a valuable resource for our community. ” he continued.
The location of the adopted mile is from Lacey Recreation Complex to the round-a-bout. The group began Wednesday evening sweeping and clearing this part of the trail. The job took 1.5 hours for the initial cleaning and the Young Professionals even ran into several people fishing at the pond during the cleaning. The group will return to clear and trim around the bench area near the trail and plan to maintain this section of trail at least once a month throughout the season.
Trail miles have been also been adopted by the Police Association, The Noon Kiwanis, boy scouts, the Richardson family and Dr. Steven Shoup. For information on adopting a mile of trail you can call the MCRF office at 672-2499.
