Mahaska Health welcomes Makayla Leathers, PA-C, to Medical Weight Loss Clinic

Mahaska Health is pleased to announce that Makayla Leathers, PA-C, has joined the new Medical Weight Loss Clinic expanding access to personalized, physician and nurse-led weight management services for the community.

Makayla Leathers is a board-certified Physician Assistant committed to delivering compassionate, patient centered care. She earned her Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies from Des Moines University and her Bachelor of Science in Human Physiology from the University of Iowa. Her clinical experience spans a wide range of specialties, including women’s health, dermatology, orthopedics, cardiology, and family medicine.

Her professional background includes patient care at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics, where she served as a Float Nursing Assistant across more than ten units. She has also worked as a Work Skills Supervisor, supporting residents with disabilities. Leathers has been recognized with the Helping Hands Award at the University of Iowa Hospitals for her dedication to service and patient care.

“We are excited to welcome Makayla to our Team,” shared Dr. Mark Zacharjasz, Mahaska Health Medical Weight Loss Director. “Her dedication to helping patients build healthier, more confident lives strengthens the care we provide to our community every day.”

In her role at the Mahaska Health Medical Weight Loss Clinic, Makayla will work as part of a physician-led team focused on individualized care plans, treatment strategies, and long-term health outcomes. In addition to her services in the Medical Weight Loss Clinic, Makayla will also support the Walk-In care team.
