MAHASKA COUNTY – MHP will recognize the important role that imaging has had on the field of medicine during National Radiologic Technology Week, November 3-9, 2013. The heart of “Rad Tech” Week is X-ray Discovery Day, observed on Nov. 8.

Medical imaging has grown by leaps and bounds since the X-ray was first discovered in 1895. According to MHP Director of Radiology Julie Hartke, the lasting impression that the X-ray has had on patient care holds far-reaching significance.

“Most people know that the X-ray is used to produce images of bones in the body,” Hartke said. “What people don’t know is that X-rays are also a component of highly sophisticated radiology functions such as cardiac stress tests and thyroid scans, as well as interventional and therapeutic treatments.”

MHP performs imaging exams of all kinds, including digital mammograms, ultrasounds, CT scans, PET/CT, MRI, Nuclear Medicine, bone density, fluoroscopy and general diagnostic x-ray. All Radiology staff members at MHP are nationally certified technologists.

“We strongly value our patient satisfaction, and in order to provide the best possible service, all technologists perform continuing education to stay current with the newest technology,” Hartke stressed. “Along with that, we also have a quality program that ensures we are using the least amount of radiation possible, while at the same time getting the best possible images for diagnoses.

“The X-ray’s impact on patient outcomes and our ability to provide quality care is incredible, allowing physicians to quickly and accurately detect, diagnose and treat injury, illness and disease,” Hartke said. “We’re excited to celebrate our department’s achievements during this commemorative week.”
