Oskaloosa, May 21, 2012 – The Mahaska County YMCA is excited to announce the recent receipt of a grant from the USA Pickleball Assocation (USAPA) for the purchase of new equipment at the facility. “With the help of this grant,” Sports Director Ryan Harkema said, “the Y is able to move further towards its goal of making its facilities and its programs an even better place for members and the community to play. Upgrading pickleball equipment in the form of new portable USAPA nets and new indoor balls gives this already popular game at the Y another avenue for attracting new players.”
“One of the great features of pickleball is that it’s a game that everyone can play and be involved with. From mixed doubles, to doubles, to singles matches, pickleball offers a challenge and a healthy activity for all,” Mahaska County Y and USAPA member Jean Welsh expressed. Welsh and a number of YMCA members are consistent visitors to the Y gymnasium at 1 pm nearly each day during the week. From the more advanced to people trying pickleball for the first time, all are welcome to show up and play at the YMCA.
If you are interested in the game of pickleball, or would like to know about any of the other sports programs that the Mahaska County YMCA has to offer, please contact Ryan Harkema at 641.673.8411. More information about the YMCA can also be found at www.mahaskaYMCA.org, or stop by the Y today at 414 North 3rd Street in Oskaloosa.
