Mahaska County added to FEMA Individual Disaster Assistance Program
Mahaska County was recently added to a Presidential Disaster Declaration. Jasper and Polk counties were added at this time as well, allowing for individuals to receive assistance with damages associated with recent flooding. This was attained on information gathered even before this most recent round of flooding.
Individuals in need of assistance need to contact FEMA at 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or by submitting an application to www.DisasterAssistance.gov . This year, FEMA also used mobile registration units to travel to areas where telephone service might not be available.
When calling the number or visiting their website officials ask that you have as much information about yourself and the property right away. Beyond your name and social security number and the address of the property, it would be advisable to have your insurance and bank information and your monthly income. Damages might be walls, foundation, heating and cooling, or electrical problems.
The time frame for filing claims is limited and anyone that has damages is encouraged to call. If you need additional information call FEMA at 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or Mahaska County Emergency Management 1-641-672-1209 for further assistance.
