Mahaska Connect Makes Impact
OSKALOOSA – Many roadblocks to services exist for those who are homeless, sleeping in their cars or tents, or living in overcrowded, unsafe conditions, lacking utilities, or on the verge of losing their housing. Love INC of Mahaska County, a partnership of local churches, wants to help break down those barriers through Mahaska Connect. This annual event links those who face housing challenges in Mahaska County to the services that are often difficult to access. Oftentimes, determining where to go to find a particular service or knowing how to obtain those services is a daunting task.In the past five years, more than 300 Mahaska County residents who experienced housing challenges were able to access quality services through Mahaska Connect. This year’s event will be held on Saturday, Nov. 8, at Fellowship Bible Church, 1000 A Avenue West in Oskaloosa, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Those seeking services must check in by noon that day.
Love INC organizes local agencies and organizations to provide an opportunity for those who need services. Nearly three dozen resources are available, including a representative from Iowa Legal Aid for consultations. Limited medical and physical therapy screenings, vision screening and eyeglass repair, birth certificate applications, Medicaid and food stamp applications, housing information, and mental health counseling services. Also available will be personal care such as prayer, haircuts, recovery programs, vaccination, pregnancy, and parenting resources. All services will be available FREE of charge. Children’s activity tables will be available on site, and brunch will be provided.
Free transportation to and from the event is available by contacting the Love INC Connection Center at 641-676-3750. Transportation is available to and from all Mahaska County communities. Reservations for transportation must be made by noon, Friday, Nov. 7.
