The historic bandstand and the city park come alive with music as the Oskaloosa Municipal Band continues another season of performances beginning June 6. The music begins at 8 p.m. and can be heard every Thursday evening during the summer months – a tradition which began in 1864.
Hawkeye Real Estate invites community members to come to the square, bring their chairs, and enjoy this year’s entertainment. Along with the free music and First National Bank popcorn, Hawkeye will be offering free lemonade and free iced tea from the “Cooler Bike” – a bicycle with a cooler mounted on the front. It may be parked on a corner of the square or Hawkeye Real Estate volunteers may be riding it around and bringing the complimentary beverages directly to the audience members.
In honor of Hawkeye’s 25th Anniversary, over 500 squirt bottles filled with lemonade will be given to kids attending the concerts throughout the summer.
“The squirt bottles feature our 25th Anniversary Logo,” said Chris Roach, Hawkeye Real Estate Broker, “and we will encourage the kids to stop back by at other concerts to receive lemonade refills. We’ve been providing lemonade and iced tea at the Oskaloosa Band Concerts in our town square for about 15 years and we’re looking forward to another successful year of fun and great music.”
Roach is one of the Hawkeye volunteers who ride the Cooler Bike at the concerts, personally handing out the free beverages. Free drinks have been provided by Hawkeye Real Estate at the band concerts for nearly 15 years ever since the Cooler Bike was acquired by owner Lyle Siefering.
Roach said Hawkeye will be at each of the Thursday night concerts except for the concerts held during RAGBRAI and Sweet Corn Serenade festivities when even food vendors will be addressing refreshments.
