Livezey Wins On His Birthday At Southern Iowa Speedway

Oskaloosa, Iowa: Just prior to 7 pm on Wednesday a quick passing rain shower developed over the Southern Iowa Fairgrounds. While it was raining the sun was shining indicating that the shower would pass quickly and it did but the start of the races were delayed by just over a ½ hour. The racing action went on as scheduled with the final checkered flag of the night waving at 10:20 pm on 3M Kids Night. The youngsters in attendance were treated to a big money and candy scramble.
The Midstate Machine Stock Car feature saw Nathan Wood make a return to victory lane. Wood took advantage of his front row start and went on to lead the main event flag to flag, the feature was not without challenges for Wood as he held off several challenges by strong runner Todd Reitzler. Dustin Griffiths rounded out the top three on Wednesday night.
Colton Livezey celebrated his Birthday on Wednesday night by taking the checkers first in the Oskaloosa Quality Rentals Sportmods. Livezey led the first two laps before Maguire DeJong took over the point position. DeJong was hit by misfortune just past the midway point as his engine let go in the 30M car. Livezey went on to score the win over a vast improving Kyle Harwood. Steven Berry rounded out the top three.
Dustin Griffiths scored his third consecutive feature win in the Parker Tree Service Hobby Stocks. The battle for the lead included a pack of five cars as the race reached the midway point. The leaders had just completed lap 10 when the front runners came together sending three cars off the back chute. The cars of Aaron Martin, Trevor Tanner and Rick VanDusseldorp all had to be wreckered back to the pits with extensive damage, fortunately no drivers were injured in the incident. On the restart with 4 to go, Griffiths took command and went on to score the win ahead of Austin Barnes and Jesse Williams.
The Dirt N Asphalt Sport Compacts saw Matt Moore score a much needed win. Moore’s season has been frustrating to say the least, but everything came together for the Ottumwa driver on Wednesday night. Moore held off two strong competitors on Wednesday night in taking the win ahead of Brandon Pickney and Garrett Porter.
Justin Zimmerman made the tow from Texas to race this weekend in Knoxville, Zimmerman decided to give Oskaloosa a go on Wednesday night and the decision paid off in a win in the Clow Valve Company Non Wing Sprint Car Class. Zimmerman raced to the win ahead of Ben Woods and Tim Folkerts.
Wednesday, June 7th will be Nutrien Ag Teacher and School employee appreciation night. All school employees will be admitted free simply by showing a school identification. Hot laps will get underway at 7:15 pm.
