Lindell Earns Men’s Swimming Weekly Honor
GRINNELL, Iowa – Grinnell College sophomore Will Lindell has earned his first Midwest Conference (MWC) Men’s Swimming and Diving Performer of the Week award of the 2016-17 season after leading the Pioneers to victory on Saturday.
Lindell had a huge hand in helping the Pioneers defend their team title at the Grinnell Invitational over the weekend. He claimed victory in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:10.78) and was third in the 400-yard individual medley (4:20.15) and 100-yard breaststroke (59.88). He also swam on the third-place 400-yard medley relay team (3:37.32). The Pioneers piled up 1,047.5 points to beat the runner-up by more than 150 points.
Notable Performances
Martin Ambre stayed busy on Saturday, swimming in two relays and in two individual distance events for Illinois College at the Panther Invitational at Principia College. Ambre swam the opening leg of the 200-yard medley relay which finished fourth behind two non-Division III programs to start the day. He later was third in the 200-yard freestyle (1:51.51) and 1,650-yard freestyle (18:13.31). His time in the 200 was the fifth-best time in school history and his mile was the second-fastest ever for IC. He ended the day as part of the 400-yard freestyle relay team which finished third, again behind two non-Division III programs.
