Letter To The Editor: From Mayor Krutzfeldt

To the Editor,
As Mayor I’m often asked what is special about Oskaloosa. There are many things, but I most enjoy our culture of people working together to make good things happen. Construction of the library and law enforcement center, the elementary school, and more recently RAGBRAI, Blue Zones, wayfinding signs, corridor planning, and brand development. Other projects are more long term like the Lacy Complex and the recreation trail.
Community initiatives like these make our city stronger in many ways. They develop passionate leaders who gain experience. Relationships are formed that benefit future projects. It raises the optimism and energy level of the community. And the success enhances the living experience for us all.
In my position, I see many projects happening at once, all working to improve our city in ways large and small. There is a real sense of momentum in these Improvements and we need to keep them happening. However sometimes the leaders are frustrated and slowed down by harsh criticism from naysayers.
So encourage your leaders in issues you support, and take the time to learn about issues where you disagree. This is an important time in Oskaloosa’s history, and we need to help enable those working to improve our community. It serves us all better to understand what leaders are trying to accomplish and contribute our advice and encouragement to their efforts.
Mayor David Krutzfeldt
