Leo A. Lockard, 77, of Oskaloosa, died Sunday, March 9, 2014, at the Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa. He was born June 22, 1936 at Medford, Oregon, the son of Merle Fred and Daisy Doris Darland Lockard.

Leo graduated from the Oskaloosa High School with the class of 1955. On June 25, 1961, he was united in marriage to Sharon Stone at Griswold, Iowa.

Early in his adult life, Leo drove a low boy truck for Angus Coal in Mahaska County. Later, he was a heavy equipment operator for Kaser Corporation for 40 plus years, and continued with Martin Marietta after they purchased Kaser. He retired in the early 2000’s. In retirement, he occasionally drove a loader for Ideal Ready Mix in Eddyville.

Leo enjoyed fishing, hunting, and especially coffee and visiting with his friends. He also enjoyed reading car magazines, watching TV, and was a proud grandpa as he attended activities for his granddaughter, Shayna.

His family includes his wife, Sharon of Oskaloosa; a son: David Lockard of Ankeny; a daughter: Amy Lockard of Oskaloosa; a granddaughter: Shayna Ullrick of Oskaloosa; two sisters: Karen Mitchell of Eddyville and Patsy (and Dick) Marlin of Oskaloosa; many nieces and nephews and cousins; and an uncle and aunt: Carl (& Hallene) Darland of Oskaloosa.

Leo was preceded in death by his parents; a brother: Merle Fred Lockard, Jr.; and his parents-in-law: E. Evald and Audrey Stone.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 12, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Reverend Michael Omundson officiating.
Burial will be in the Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will begin Tuesday morning after 10 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be at the funeral chapel from 5-7 Tuesday evening to greet friends and relatives.
