Leland passed away Friday evening at the MHP Hospice Services Serenity House in Oskaloosa at the age of 103 years, 7 months and 26 days.
Leland Joshua Robertson, son of Ernest Cleveland and Daisy Ethel (Foster) Robertson, was born February 27, 1910, at the rural home of his parents near Union Mills in Mahaska County, Iowa.

Leland was a 1929 graduate of Malcom High School. After his education, Leland worked in the family business, Robertson Dairy in Barnes City, Iowa. He married the love of his life, Marie Edna Wright, January 16, 1942, in Kirkville, Missouri and later that year he entered the U.S. Army. Leland served from April 1, 1942 to the time of his discharge, October 9, 1945, and was stationed in Northern Africa. Upon his return from the military, Leland and Marie moved to Barnes City where he ran the DX Service Station. The family moved to Oskaloosa in 1947 where Leland was employed as a salesman in the furniture and floor covering department at Montgomery Ward’s Department Store. After Wards closed in the 70’s, Leland laid carpet independently.

Leland enjoyed parakeets and raised and sold them for a number of years. Leland and Marie were members of the Good Sam’s Camping Club and enjoyed camping with family and friends for several years.

April 18, 1954, Leland and his family joined the First Christian Church in Oskaloosa; they were active members for many years. His family will remember him as a loving father and amazing grandpa who cared deeply about each of his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

His family includes his children and their spouses: Merlin and Betty Robertson and Cynthia and David Smith, all of Oskaloosa; six grandchildren: Julie (Larry) Lappe of Carlisle, Scott (Kris) Robertson of Oskaloosa, Pastor Joshua (Kris) Robertson of Indiana, Charles (Jody) Smith of Marion, Timothy Smith of Oskaloosa, and Pamela (Shannon) Cason of Prairie City. He was blessed with 17 great-grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren, and 2 step-great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Leland was preceded in death by his wife, Marie, on September 17, 2004, and his siblings: Alvada Greene, Max Robertson, Irene Kline and Howard Robertson.

Funeral Services for Leland will be held at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, October 29, 2013, at Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel with Pastor Michael Omundson of the First Christian Church and Pastor Joshua Robertson of the Nazarene Church in Indiana officiating.
Burial will be in Barnes City Cemetery.
Visitation will begin at 10 a.m., Monday at the funeral chapel; the family will be present from 5-7 p.m. to greet visitors.
Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church or MHP Hospice Serenity House.
