Latest wrestling poll has Dutch at No. 10
PELLA — In advance of Thursday’s night showdown against Coe College, the Central College wrestling team maintains a top-10 ranking in the latest National Wrestling Coaches Association Division III poll.
Also, in the individual rankings, four Dutch wrestlers are in the top-10 at their weight classes. Central is the second-highest ranked Iowa Conference team behind No. 1 Wartburg.
Last year’s national runner-up at 125 pounds, C.J. Pestano (junior, Torrance, Calif.) is the highest rated of the quartet at No. 2. He’s 4-2 this season and took the title at the Super 8 Invitational
A.J. McBroom (senior, Runnells, Southeast Polk HS) is No. 6 at 184 pounds after placing second at the Super 8 Invitational. He’s 2-1 on the season with his only loss coming against No. 4 Grant Wedepohl of Wis.-Platteville.
Also a champion at the Super 8 Invitational, Ryan Vandall (senior, Phoenix, Ariz., Moon Valley HS) is No. 8 at 165 pounds with a 5-2 record. Senior Matt Seabold (Burlington) is No. 10 at 197 pounds and sits at 3-1 on the season.
Central faces the No. 12 rated Kohawks on Thursday night at 7 p.m. inside P.H. Kuyper Gymnasium. It’s the Iowa Conference opener for both teams.
