Krista Lee Van De Kieft, 55, of Oskaloosa, died Saturday, April 17, 2021, at her home in Oskaloosa. She was born August 11, 1965, in Sigourney, Iowa, the daughter of Layton and Karen Bower Claypool.
Krista graduated from Oskaloosa High School with the class of 1983.
Early on she was united in marriage to Mark Sheeley. To this union two sons were born, Cory and Zach. Krista and Mark later divorced.
After a few years of working, Krista decided she wanted to attend beauty school in Des Moines. Upon completing school, she went to work as a beautician in Oskaloosa. She worked at several salons in Oskaloosa and always enjoyed her customers and co-workers. She worked for many years at DeJong Greenhouse in Oskaloosa. While working full-time at the greenhouse she earned her nursing degree taking classes and studying on nights and weekends. She became a Registered Nurse and worked in various departments at the Mahaska Hospital. After years of nursing, she retired from the Hospital. In retirement she enjoyed staying active working part-time in Ottumwa and Oskaloosa.
On November 2, 2018, Krista was united in marriage to Maurice “Moe” Van De Kieft in Oskaloosa.
Krista enjoyed her pet dogs, tending to her plants and flowers, riding her Harley Davidson Motorcycle, taking walks and boating.
Her family includes her husband, Moe Van De Kieft of Oskaloosa; two sons, Cory (& Beth) Sheeley of Oskaloosa and Zach Sheeley of Des Moines; two granddaughters, Hannah and Cora Sheeley; her father and step mother, Layton and Sherry Claypool of Delta; her mother and step father, Karen and Russ Weldon of Lake Wales, Florida; and her sister, Kendra (& Steve) Heaton of Oskaloosa.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents; two granddaughters, Ann Sheeley and Maya Sheeley; and a nephew, Jordan Heaton.
There will be a private family graveside service held in the Waddell Cemetery near Delta. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
