Jazz and Coffee Concert

Oskaloosa, Iowa – The William Penn Fine Arts Departments is presenting a Fall Jazz and Coffee concert at the Smokey Row Coffee House on November 13 and 14, beginning at 7:30 p.m. Featured performers will be the William Penn University Jazz Band and Singers playing a collection of jazz standards of yesterday and today.

The Jazz Ensemble will play two Dominic Spera charts, “Blue Brass” and “Exit 135 North” that feature junior music education major, David Nelson (Moravia, Iowa) on piano. Kendall Den Hartog and Chris Meinert (Oskaloosa) will rock out on the Brian Setzer hit, “Rock this Town”, and Catherine Reynolds (Independence, Iowa) doubles on flute for the Les Hooper tune, “Coffee and Castanets”. Other selections include Paul Clark’s “A Gentle Touch” and “Blue Blues” by Al Cechvala.

The William Penn Singers will appear under the marquee to perform Andy William’s “Moon River”, “You’d be so nice to come home to”, “In my life”, “Sing, Sing, Sing”, and “Bumble Bee”, first performed by The Real Group.

The ensembles are directed by Scott Cressley and Anita Meinert. Future performances will include the William Penn University/Oskaloosa Community Concert Band on November 19 at the George Daily Auditorium. The Penn Singers are scheduled to perform the National Anthem at Wells Fargo Arena for the Iowa Energy Game on December 9. For further information, contact Anita Meinert, 673-1063.
