Oskaloosa, Iowa – The Shriners in Oskaloosa work throughout the year to help make funds available for providing transportation to the Shriners hospitals, so that kids can receive the medical treatment they need.
On Saturday, the Oskaloosa Fire Department joined the Shriners to talk about fire safety, while enjoying some seat time in the department’s new fire truck.
John Pape with the Oskaloosa Shriners talked about how the organization is working to make a difference, by helping children utilize the Minneapolis and Chicago hospitals.
“The hospitals are free for kids, but we raise the money to get them transferred up to the hospital when they go for treatment”, said Pape. The funds also help get family members to the hospital as well.
The event was held at Mahaska Drug, along A Avenue, for the 2nd year in a row. “We appreciate Mahaska Drug putting it on for us this year”, says Pape.
For the Shriners Club in Oskaloosa, the Jail and Bail event, a golf tournament, and onion sales are all utilized to help raise money.
