Oskaloosa, Iowa – The Oskaloosa Indians opened tournament play on Monday night when Saydel came to town.

The Indians won over the Eagles in a convincing fashion, 84-46. The Indians are now 19-3 on the season, as they look forward to Bondurant-Farrar on Thursday night.

The Hawkeye Real Estate Dunk-O-Meter went up by 10, and the Indians put on a clinic the first half.

“We knew going in that we were the one seed and they were the eight seed, but we set some different goals,” said Oskaloosa Head Coach Ryan Parker.

Those goals included points in a quarter, points in a half. “We haven’t really done that this year, but sometimes you’ve got to motivate them a little bit differently,” said Parker. “I was pleased by the way we came out to start the game, especially in the first half.”

The Saydel Eagles were 3-18 heading into Monday night, but they provided a different look on the court than the Indians had seen all season long in the Little Hawkeye League.

Parker said that the conversation during the nearly week off was “getting back to playing Oskaloosa basketball. We sort of got away from that.”

“That grind takes a toll on you,” said Parker, who says that Bondurant is a good team, who had defeated Knoxville in Oskaloosa on Monday night. It was the second time the two matched up with the same result.

Oskaloosa will enjoy the home court advantage on Thursday night. Parker was pleased with the packed house on Monday night. “I’m pleased. 19-3 on the year, and what else can you ask for?”

“It’s the post-season. You’ve got to take care of business or you are done,” said Parker.

Cole Henry lead the Indians with 17 points, with Jared Kruse adding 15 more. Rian Yates added 14 more from off the bench.

Xavier Foster and Cole Henry each had 6 boards for the Indians. Foster had 3 blocked shots, and Tanner DeKock had 5 assists on the night.

Oskaloosa is scheduled to take on Bondurant-Ferrar on Thursday night in sub-state action.
