Indians Launch Past The Rockets

Oskaloosa Indians

Eddyville, Iowa – The Oskaloosa Indians had their eye on the very talented Eddyville Rockets team heading into Saturday’s match-up in Eddyville.

Austin Hafner lead the Indians in scoring on Saturday night with 17 points, in a game the Indians took by a score of 72-36.

Hafner spoke with Oskaloosa News’s Doug DeKock after the game. “My teammates give me the ball and tell me to shoot it, so that’s what I do.”

DeKock noted Hafner’s improvement on defense as of late and was made aware of that early on in the season. “I’ve been working on that, and it’s got a lot better I think.”

Oskaloosa Head Coach Ryan Parker on the win over the Rockets. “We were due. We haven’t played very well all year and played pretty well tonight.”

“I think our guys were a little bit motivated tonight because they heard about how good Eddyville was,” said Parker. “My question to a lot of people all week was, why are you saying that? What motivates you to say that Eddyville’s going to give you a game or whatever, because that’s all we’ve heard all week, and maybe all month. So I think there was some motivation in that locker room tonight.”

Parker compliments Hafner on his play against the Rockets. “We challenged him early in the year to play better defensively. He wasn’t very happy about his playing time early in the year, but some of that is making the point that you just can’t be a shooter all the time. You’ve got to play on both ends of the floor. That’s his role, to knock down shots for us. You know what, he’s got the best job maybe in the State with Cole and Xavier down low and kick-outs, and knocking down wide open shots.”

Hafner lead the Indians with 17 points. Cole Henry had 15 points, while Xavier Foster had 13 points. Rian Yates added 12 points, while Noah Van Veldhuizen scored 11.

Both Foster and Henry had 13 rebounds. Henry had four assists and three blocked shots. Foster had two assists and six blocked shots.

The Indians travel to Norwalk on Tuesday night in conference action. We will have the live audio broadcast here on Oskaloosa News powered by Thunder Country KIIC.
