In Search of Lincoln:
A Journey Through
Springfield, Illinois
Sept. 14-16, 2012

Oskaloosa, Iowa – Few would argue that Abraham Lincoln was one of our greatest presidents; from his rise in poverty as the son of a backwoodsman to his struggles to keep a country united, Lincoln gave his life to his country, both literally and figuratively.

Come join The Traveling Book Club as we take a look at Lincoln’s early years and discover more about his life, his family, and his legacy.

Highlights include New Salem Village, Presidential Museum, a walking “ghost tour,” and for fun, a visit to the world’s largest pumpkin patch, plus lots more, but don’t wait too long! The trip is filling up, and there’s a $20/person discount if you sign up before July 15!

We’ll be reading two books in preparation for this trip: Manhunt: The 12-DayChase for Lincoln’s Killer by James Swanson; and Mary Todd Lincoln: A Biography by Jean Harvey Baker. Both are available at Book Vault. For an itinerary and registration form, complete with costs, contact Valerie Van Kooten at vankootenv@central.edu or at (641) 628-9789. Or pick up the information at Book Vault.
