Hite Announces Re-Election for State Representative

(NEW SHARON) – This morning, State Representative Dustin Hite (R-New Sharon) announced that he will seek re-election to the Iowa House in District 79 in 2020. The district includes the cities of Oskaloosa and Pella as well as rural portions of Mahaska and Marion counties.

“I am honored to serve the people of Mahaska and Marion counties and appreciate the opportunity to take their voice to Des Moines,” said Hite. “As a public servant, I understand the importance of listening to the folks back home, working to find consensus, and taking action on those priorities. I will continue to serve my constituents in a thoughtful manner and represent their views to the best of my abilities.”

During his first term in the Legislature, Hite was named Vice Chairman of the Judiciary Committee and has taken the lead on several high-profile issues. In addition to the Judiciary Committee, he is also a member of the Local Government, Veterans Affairs, and Ways and Means committees, as well as the Justice System Budget Subcommittee.

“I am proud of what we have been able to accomplish for Iowans over the last several years but I know that there is more work to be done,” Hite added. “We must continue to invest in K-12 education, look for ways to make health care more affordable for families, and ensure that Iowans are able to access job training programs that help them advance in their careers.”

Hit grew up in rural Mahaska County outside of New Sharon and graduated from North Mahaska High School. He went on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in from Central College in Pella and then graduated from Law School at the University of Iowa. Today he is a Partner at the Heslinga, Dixon & Hite law firm where he has a general practice. He served as the Mayor of New Sharon from 2012 until 2018 and is the city attorney for several local small towns.

Dustin has a lengthy history of community service. He previously served on the Mahaska County United Way Board, including stints as President, Vice President, and Treasurer. He also served on the Iowa Judicial District 8A Judicial Nominating Commission, the Mahaska County Magistrate Nominating Commission, the Mahaska County Emergency Management Commission, and the North Mahaska School Improvement Advisory Committee.

Hite and his wife, Kate have two young daughters. The family attends St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Oskaloosa.
