GRINNELL, Iowa – Grinnell College’s Sam Tinkham ’16 has been named the Midwest Conference Baseball Pitcher of the Week.

Tinkham, a 6-0, 215-pound left-hander from Newington, Conn. (Newington), tied a Grinnell College baseball program record by striking out 16 batters in a 9-2 victory over Illinois College in the second game of a doubleheader Saturday. His total matched the previous school mark established in 1977 by Tom Richmond and again by Jake Chavez in 1999.

Tinkham allowed just seven hits and issued two walks while improving to 3-1 in his complete-game performance.

The MWC Baseball Performer of the Week is Michael Polcyn of Ripon College.
