GRINNELL’S POPE IS NAMED MWC BASEBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK

Grinnell College Athletics

GRINNELL, Iowa – Grinnell College’s Ben Pope ’12 (Maryville, Tenn./Alcoa) has been named the Midwest Conference Baseball Pitcher of the Week.

Pope, the two-time defending MWC South Division Pitcher of the Year, did nothing to take away from that standing this past week. He pitched a two-hit, complete-game shutout against Monmouth College as the Pioneers blanked the Fighting Scots 10-0 on Saturday.

He struck out five batters and did not issue a walk as Grinnell remained in control of the MWC South Division standings. For the season, Pope is 4-1 with a 3.18 ERA.

The MWC Offensive Performer of the Week is Chad Ljunggren of St. Norbert College.
