GRINNELL, Iowa – Kelly Bruce ’12, who has already earned several honors during her illustrious diving career at Grinnell College, added a big one to that list today.

Bruce, a biological chemistry major from Middleton, Wis., was selected to the 2012 Capital One Academic All-America Division III Women’s At-Large Second Team. She is the 23rd Academic All-America selection in Grinnell history and the second this year, joining baseball player Mike Nodzenski ’12.

The At-Large Division includes the sports of swimming and diving, bowling, crew, fending, field hockey, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, tennis and water polo. She is Grinnell’s second Academic At-Large All-American, joining David Hammond, who earned the accolade in 1991.

Bruce is the Grinnell school record-holder in one- and three-meter diving with scores of 483.85 and 498.75, respectively. She is a seven-time Midwest Conference champion and three-time MWC Diver of the Year.

Bruce has earned All-America honorable mention honors in one-meter diving, been named Scholar All-America and is a multiple Academic All-Conference selection.

The Academic All-America Team is selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
