Grinnell has MWC-best 276 Academic All-Conference picks‏

RIPON, Wis. – Grinnell College landed a league-best 276 student-athletes on the Midwest Conference All-Academic Team for 2011-12.

This year the Academic All-Conference program revamped the criteria which now has a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.33 (3.2 in previous years) and is calculated only in the awarded academic season rather than the cumulative GPA. Another change to the program is that freshmen are now eligible along with sophomores, juniors and se­niors who letter in any of the MWC’s fall, winter or spring sports.

Grinnell led all MWC schools in All-Academic picks during all three sports seasons. The Pioneers had 105 All-Academic selections during the fall, 99 in the winter and 72 in the spring.

Grinnell fared best in women’s indoor track, where 28 student-athletes earned All-Academic recognition. The Pioneers had 20 selections in women’s swimming and women’s outdoor track, 18 in women’s soccer and 17 each in women’s cross country, men’s swimming and men’s outdoor track.
