Glenn Gibson, 87 of Montezuma passed away Friday evening, July 16, 2021 at the Unity Point Grinnell Regional Medical Center. Glenn Allen Gibson, the son of Harry Eugene and Adeline (Neuse) Gibson, was born on November 7, 1933 in Marshalltown, Iowa.

Glenn grew up on a dairy farm and graduated from Tama High School in 1951 where he excelled in Basketball and was the first athlete to qualify for the state track meet.

Following high school, Glenn worked for a local dairy farmer before volunteering for the draft in 1954 to join the United States Army.

Glenn was a small aircraft mechanic and a helicopter pilot that flew in several rescue missions and was stationed at Thule Army Base in Greenland.

On April 17, 1955, Glenn was united in marriage to Sharon Clark at the Montour United Methodist Church. To this union three children were born, Keven, Denise and Lori.

Following his honorable discharge in December of 1955, Glenn worked for Coca Cola in Marshalltown for a few years before working for Winters Dairy/Borden Dairy for seven years.

In 1963, Glenn and Sharon moved to Montezuma where he began working for Pitka Motors selling cars before joining Sutherland Printing for the next 28 years. He also worked at Vannoy Chevrolet, he was a greens keeper at the Montezuma Country Club and worked at Brownells until he officially retired.

Glenn enjoyed staying busy, mowing, golfing, wood working and above all attending his grandkids activities. He was a member of the Montezuma Lions Club, Montezuma Jaycee’s, Montezuma Country Club, Montezuma Methodist Church and a charter member of the Community Hope Church.

Glenn’s legacy will be honored by his wife of nearly 67 years, Sharon Gibson of Montezuma; his children: Keven (& Johnette) Gibson of Montezuma, Denise (& Larry) Baethke of Montezuma and Lori Kriegel of Grinnell; 11 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; three brothers: Wayne Gibson of Tama, Richard (& Sharen) Gibson of Newton and Ronnie (& Kathy) Gibson of Florence, Arizona; two sisters-in-law, Bev Gibson of Black Duck, Minnesota and Joan Gibson of Tama; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Dale Gibson and Norman Gibson; and a sister-in-law, Ella Mae Gibson.

Funeral services will begin at 10:30 am Saturday, July 24, 2021 at the Community Hope Church in Montezuma.
Burial will be held in the Pleasant Township Cemetery at Ewart.
Visitation will begin after 12:00 pm Friday, July 23, 2021 at the Community Hope Church with the family present from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Montezuma Fire Department.
